Chapter four opens up with Strandlater going to shave, and Holden goes and watches him and talks to him. Strandlater begins to tell about the date he has, and how she knows Holden. Her name is Jane and they used to be neighbors. After Holden describes Jane, Strandlater asks him to write a composition that has to describe a room or a house in great detail. Holden doesn't agree, but says that if he has nothing better to do he will. Holden then describes how Ackley and Strandlater are both stupid, but both differently. After Strandlater leaves, Holden feels very anxious and nervous about Strandlater's date with Jane. Ackley then comes in and pops his pimples in Holden's room until dinner.
Response: I think that even though Holden said he might not do the paper, he will end up doing it because he won't have anything better to do. Strandlater is kind of a jerk to just expect him to write the paper for him, no questions asked.
